I'm Summer, California girl, water resources engineer, cyclist, vegetarian, hobby photographer.

My very favorite things: scenery, staying healthy, a sense of space and place and time, oceans rivers trees, children laughing, gourmet made-at-home meals, road trips, trippy dreams, stamps in my passport, my dog, and home-grown tomatoes.

I greatly disdain litterbugs, whaling, corporate scandals, nuclear weapons, pay-for-play government, Bush's illegal war and war profiteers.

I've spent the past 11+ years working as a water resources engineer. I'm very proud of my career, the relationships I've made along the way, and what I've achieved. I can't imagine a better job for me. I rarely, if ever, blog about California water resources, so that I can keep my professional opinions, well, professional.

I started blogging back in 2005, when George W Bush was President and I was pissed. I was pissed at the W and I was pissed at the medicority of the citizenry and I was pissed at the failure of contempary journalism. My first blog post was a beatnik-esque little piece of prose, Novacain, which pretty much defined my red-wine state of mind and general disgruntlement with the apathy that surrounded me.

Those first few months of my blogging resulted mostly in short poems and prose. I may have been a little too 420 during that year (I don't recall). Throughout early 2006, I posted bits of news and my own little commentary, mostly on current affairs - the war in Iraq, Darfur - and ocean regulation. Pissed Off & Cynical is a decent example of my '06 rantings. 2007, 2008, a little ocean stuff, posts vociferous in their anti-whaling sentiment, participation in some useless memes, occasional photos, little snippets describing the highlights of my life, recipes and such. All kind of boring, really. Of all my posts during these two zombie years, the following are probably worthy of your time, or are at least most indicative of what I perceive to be my better writing:

~Fall 2008, I discovered Twitter and Tumblr. There, it's so easy to post little things, to experience the *social* aspect of social media, and get the instant gratification of the stars and hearts and the pulse of little memes that run through the so-called community. So, my postings here have been few and far between. However, this is still my blog, and I like knowing that it's here for me, if I ever feel like writing something a little more substantial, a little more heartfelt. Here are my 2009 posts that I think worthy of bother:

If you like what you see here, I recommend checking me out elsewhere on the interwebs, or subscribing to this blog on your RSS reader. I <3 email, too.
