December 2: Best Restaurant Moment

Share the best restaurant experience you had this year. Who was there? What made it amazing? What taste stands out in your mind?

. . . . . . . . . . . . .

It was May. There was coffee.

The conversation: it just clicked.
The tempo, the content, the intensity: it just resonated.

I am not easily impressed. But I was impressed.

And so we met up again a few hours later and continued the date over a couple of draught Guinness while seated in a vinyl booth at an odd little Irishish establishment. There we talked Twitter, Kindle and who knows what else, then, sufficiently stouted, ventured on to a certain shi-shi vegetarian establishment. And sometime there, at a little table at the window in the dimly lit restaurant on Geary, was one of my best restaurant moments of 2009. Oh sure, there was the atmosphere (abuzz), the food (curry), the wine (red), the candles (lit). But, most of all, there was this totally fucking awesome connection. It was intellectually stimulating. It was raw and unbridled, heart-tuggingly honest.  It was giddy and real. It was emotional. I remained impressed. It was all these things that words do not do justice. Words like passionate and sparking, fiery and aglow. Even now, months later, I can't think about that dinner without getting all swoony. I couldn't wait for him to kiss me. I didn't want him to stop talking.

But the best part is that this moment is not some pinnacle of bestestness. Many more best restaurant moments have been had this year, and many more are to come.
